Thousands of passengers were left stranded overnight at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, a major Ryanair hub serving Milan, after flights were suspended on Saturday evening due to a technical issue affecting the airport’s landing guidance system, compounded by poor visibility.
Airport operator SACBO said the technical problem was resolved around midnight, but warned that flights could still face delays or cancellations as operations restarted and schedules recovered.
Local reports said the disruption triggered 26 departing flight cancellations, with six flights diverted to other airports and seven rescheduled for Sunday. Many travelers spent the night inside the terminal, with images showing passengers sleeping on the floor and near baggage areas.
By Sunday morning, flight boards still showed widespread delays—mostly affecting Ryanair services—though some departures had resumed, including services to Cagliari and Sharm-el-Sheikh after significant delays.
