Nearly five million passengers passed through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in January, its operator announced on Friday.
The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said passenger traffic peaked on January 4, when 180,089 travelers were recorded in a single day—the highest daily volume so far.
Passenger numbers rose across both international and domestic routes compared with the same period last year. International travelers totaled 2.42 million, marking an 8.16 percent increase year on year, while domestic passenger traffic climbed to 2.54 million, up 3.16 percent.
NNIC noted that airport operations remained steady despite the surge in travelers during the holiday season and the rest of the month. The company attributed this to operational improvements rolled out over the past year, including terminal enhancements and the introduction of biometric immigration e-gates and passenger processing systems.
Stronger coordination among airlines, government agencies, and airport service providers also helped ease congestion and improve the movement of passengers and flights, the operator added.
Meanwhile, NNIC reported that it has remitted PHP62.7 billion to the national government as of January 2026, following its takeover of NAIA operations in September 2024 under a public-private partnership agreement.
